Waterparks-Houston, Texas-Rise Rooftop

  • Hometown heroes, Waterparks, played a sold-out show in Houston, Texas at Rise Rooftop on June 6 with support from Hunny and Sophie Powers. All of their fans came in uniform. They painted red stars on their faces and dyed their hair red to match the band’s frontman, Awsten Knight. The band opened up their show with the first track from their new album, “Intellectual Property.” Knight took off his giant red parka before playing fan favorite, “Rare.” The crowd went wild. The last time they played this song in Houston, Texas was in 2019.The band also played fan favorite, “Crave.” Knight promised the fans they would put this song on the setlist if the Houston show sold out, and it did. The fans love this song because the guitarist of the band, Geoff Wigington, has a singing part. Before starting “Ritual,” the band brought out a special guest, Vincent Void. Void did the screaming vocals on the track and this was his first time performing them live with the band.Every night, Knight plays an acoustic set near the end of the show with different songs in each city. Houston got “Snow Globe,” “Sleep Alone,” “Gloom Boys,” “High Definition,” and “Peach (Lobotomy.)”The band closed out the show with their hit, “Funeral Grey.”Waterparks put on an incredibly high-energy show and their fans matched that energy. At times, you could actually feel the floor moving because of how many people were jumping up and down at the same time. Waterparks shows aren’t just another night out on Earth, they’re something bigger. I highly encourage you to take your two best friends to see Waterparks next time they’re in your city. I can’t wait to watch what happens next with this band. It truly was a pleasure, Waterparks. Review and Photos by Victoria Paige Flournoy
