British rock band, The Struts, kicked off the first show of their Pretty Vicious Tour at the House of Blues in Houston, Texas on July 23, 2024. Adrenaline was high in Houston as everyone eagerly anticipated the setlist and the outfits for the opening night of their North American tour.
The Struts are heavily inspired by legendary bands such as Queen and The Rolling Stones, which is pretty evident in their appearance. The Struts’ frontman, Luke Spiller, got to perform “We Will Rock You” with Queen at the Taylor Hawkins Tribute at Wembley Stadium in September of 2022. He absolutely crushed that performance in his Spiller-esque way.
The Struts kicked off their set with a pleasant surprise, “Roll Up,” a song they haven’t played live, in full since 2019.
During one of my personal favorites, “Too Good At Raising Hell,” Spiller threw on his iconic horns from the song’s music video. Following this, they played a Struts classic, “Kiss This.”
Another pleasant surprise, “Bulletproof Baby,” made an exciting return to the setlist after being retired in 2019.
Halfway through their set, Spiller and guitarist- Adam Slack played a stunning acoustic rendition of another one of my personal favorites, “Mary Go Round.” They turned all the house lights off and the crowd lit up the venue with their phone lights, it looked and sounded magical.
They wrapped up their set with one of their most iconic songs, “Could Have Been Me.”
The Struts are nothing short of extraordinary live. Their charisma and energy are unmatched, especially with Spiller as their captivating frontman. He continues to impress me every time I see him. He always looks and sounds his best and has incredible stamina, he’s constantly dancing and running about throughout their performances.
If you’re planning to catch The Struts on this tour, bring your dancing shoes because you’re going to need them.
