The Psychedelic Furs
Paramount Theatre, Asbury Park, NJ
July 10
If you came of age in the 1980s, you are probably very familiar with The Psychedelic Furs. Led by front man and songwriter Richard Butler, along with his brother Tim Butler on bass guitar, they are the founders of one of the many bands to emerge from the British post-punk scene. Joining them onstage were Mars Williams on saxophone, Rich Good on guitar, Amanda Kramer on keyboard, and Paul Garisto on drums. They packed a powerful show with high energy and a steady stream of familiar hits such as “The Ghost in You”, “Heartbeat”, “Heaven”, “Heartbreak Beat”, “Pretty in Pink”, and “Love My Way”. Butler with his gravelly baritone voice, which is so iconic in these songs, was extremely engaging with the crowd and had everyone dancing on their feet!
They are currently touring with the English rock band James, as well as Dear Boy.
