Suenos Music Festival returned to Chicago’s Grant Park over the Memorial Day weekend bringing with it cultural diversity and hot Latin flavor to the city’s festival scene. Since its inception in 2022, it has featured some of the best artists from Mxico, South and Central America and the Caribbean, such as Wisin y Yandel, Ozuna, El Alfa and Blessd. The 2024 festival was cut short and the park evacuated due to severe weather.
This year’s headliners included Peso Pluma and Shakira on day one and Don Omar on day two and featured a sampling of Regaeton, Latin Trap and hip-hop along with more traditional Latin music. While Latin artists such as
Shakira and Peso Pluma were a huge draw with day one drawing somewhat larger crowd. Flags of Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Honduras and Puerto Rico were a common sight in the crowd and drew cheers as the artists on stage called out the country names to the fans.
The festival has grown since 2022 when it drew 45,000 fans to over 130,000 in 2024-25. While Latin artists have performed at Coachella and Governors Ball, exclusively Latin Music Festivals are few and far in between and perhaps why Suenos has become a travel destination for some of the fans with whom I had the pleasure of sharing the weekend.
