Canadian Music Week
Skye Wallace at The Horseshoe Tavern
Dave Sampson at The Rivoli
Previous engagements out of town prevented me from seeing much of Canadian Music Week in 2019.
I have fond memories of seeing big names at small venues over the years.
This year, I saw only two out of over 500 acts.
Skye Wallace opened the night at the legendary Horseshoe Tavern, bursting onto the stage for a spirited set even though most club-crawlers were still looking at their schedules to plan their route to headliners like Danko Jones or maybe even taking the night off after having experienced Azealia Banks or Josh Ritter or Tokyo Police Club at some point in the week.
Staggered just enough so I could get there in time, Dave Sampson was also warming up a rapidly growing crowd at the intimate long-time Toronto venue The Rivoli that included one parent getting a head start on a good education for his child.
Both acts were all I needed to see and shoot to know how important it is go out and experience music when I can.
Thank you Skye, Dave, and the musicians and crew you work with.
