Robert Burke Warren (formerly a member of The Fleshtones) and friends brought their special brand of magical stardust to a glistening David Bowie tribute at the Colony Cafe in Woodstock last Saturday Jan 12th. Warren is an excellent performer. He is a rare combination of totally hip and cool while still being warm and accessible. His love and respect for the audience was evidenced by the well thought out and finely crafted show he presented to the sold out crowd. He expertly navigated the quiet, low key moments and energized and exhilarated the crowd on the more rocking selections. Warren was joined by Dennis Yerry on keyboards and vocals, Peter Newell on percussions, Mark Lerner on bass and vocals, Nancy Howell, Ann Osmond and Cally Mansfield (this young talent is one to watch) singing vocals. They are all wonderful talents in their own right. Together, and with audience participation, they rocked the house and created a sense of shared love for Bowie and his music that permeated the room. The Colony Cafe is one of this small venue junkie’s favorite places to see music in the Hudson Valley. It is a beautiful, intimate setting. And with a stage full of talented musicians giving their all in this wonderful, warm space it was an invigorating, joyous evening!
