The PENN Heroes Stage at Hollywood Casino at the PENN National Race Course welcomed fans of classic ’80s rock for a night featuring Rick Springfield with special guest Starship featuring Mickey Thomas. The outdoor venue provided an ideal summer setting for a night of music.

 

The night began with Starship and the instantly recognizable vocals of Mickey Thomas bringing the crowd back to the 1980s. Accompanied by a talented group of musicians, Thomas and the band delivered hit after hit proving these songs have lost none of their appeal. Songs such as “Jane”, “Sara”, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” and “We Built This City”, proved these songs still have their appeal. The band was genuinely appreciative of the enthusiastic Pennsylvania crowd.

 

After a brief intermission, Rick Springfield and his band took the stage. Celebrating his 77th birthday next month, Rick continues to be one of classic rock’s most engaging live performers. His charisma is effortless, and he balances humor, storytelling and nonstop audience interaction. I consider him to be the Energizer bunny – he keeps going and going.

 

His set included the classics “I’ve Done Everything for You”, “Love Somebody”, “Affair of the Heart”, “Don’t Talk to Strangers”, “Human Touch” and of course “Jessie’s Girl”. The production was simple, but allowed the music, Rick and the band to take center stage.

 

For fans of ’80s classic pop-rock, the concert was a reminder that both Rick Springfield and Mickey Thomas continue to deliver, showing their remarkable talent and enthusiasm.
