Opening for Howard Jones, Rachel Sage took the stage at Wallstreet Theater in Connecticut with colorful flair and as she started to sing her beautiful voice filled the room. Sage’s powerful songs of frustration, hope, and inspiration are accented by the multitude of colors in the scarfs hanging off the stands, her clothes, and even in her sparkly heart-shaped earrings. This is topped off with her big smile and glint in her eyes. Sage switched effortlessly from piano to guitar, both laden with words, images and sparkles that show creative outlets come in all forms for her. Accompanied by the talented Kelly Halloran on violin, the two put on a performance that ended too soon.
One of my favorite songs was “Haunted by Objects” (from Myopia album) which, along with hand clapping, rings true and catches attention. Sage also sang Revelation Ground, a new single with a video that comes out Friday. Her lyrics are wonderful and it’s exciting to hear that her new project is one that includes spoken words. She sang a sample from her Poetica album performing the song “Unconditional,” another great song.
