A great end to the weekend was seeing the farewell and final show of the ‘Horns, Thorns, En Halos’ tour for Porno For Pyros.
The 16-stop trek of the farewell tour began on February 13 at the Observatory Orange County in Santa Ana, California before wrapping up on March 10th at The Wellmont Theater in Montclair, New Jersey.
Porno for Pyros is an influential short-lived band (braking up in the late 1990s after releasing two albums) formed by Perry Farrell and Stephen Perkins of Jane’s Addiction, along with Peter DiStefano and Martyn LeNoble. After Jane’s Addiction disbanded in the early 1990s, Farrell formed Porno for Pyros, exploring a more eclectic and experimental sound. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1993, featured hits like “Pets” and “Tahitian Moon.” The album, released in 1993, was a departure from the heavier sound of Jane’s Addiction, incorporating elements of alternative rock, psychedelic rock, and folk. Their albums received generally positive reviews praising the band’s experimental and eclectic approach, as well as Perry Farrell’s distinctive vocals and lyrical style. Tracks like “Pets” and “Cursed Female” showcased the band’s ability to blend catchy melodies with darker, introspective themes. Overall, Porno for Pyros remains a notable band from the alternative rock scene of the early 1990s, and continues to be appreciated by fans of the genre for its unique blend of styles and Perry Farrell’s charismatic presence.
In addition to his work with bands, Farrell has pursued various solo projects and collaborations, often experimenting with different musical styles and artistic mediums. He is also the co-founder of Lollapalooza, one of the largest and most influential music festivals in the world.
Throughout his career, Perry Farrell has been recognized for his distinctive voice, provocative lyrics, and innovative approach to music. He remains a respected figure in the alternative rock scene and continues to be active in both music and other creative endeavors.
The founding members of Porno For Pyros were Perry Farrell (Vocals, guitar), Stephen Perkins (Drums, percussion), Peter DiStefano (Guitar, vocals) and Martyn LeNoble (Bass). They released only two albums – their self-titled debut in 1993 and “Good God’s Urge” in 1996.
