The annual NJ Lottery Festival of Ballooning was held for the 39th time at the Solberg Airport in Readington, NJ from July 29-31. The festival is North America’s largest summertime hot air balloon and music festival and brings thousands of people each year to witness the twice-daily 100 balloon ascensions…..weather permitting of course. The festival is family-oriented and there are children’s amusement rides, family friendly exhibits and attractions, a wide range of vendors and musical performances throughout the day. Each day there’s also a headline musical performance. This year Friday night’s performance was Collective Soul and Saturday’s show was Todd Rundgren.
While the weather did not cooperate for a balloon lift-off on Friday night, Saturday night the skies were clear and the green flag was raised, indicating all was a go, for the balloon ascensions. What a majestic sight to see, the hot air balloons floating through the skies of central NJ. For anyone who hasn’t had the opportunity to witness the colorful glory of hot hair balloons lifting off the ground, rising high into the sky and traveling off into the distance, I wholeheartedly recommend a trip next summer to the NJ Lottery Festival of Ballooning. I already can’t wait to see what musical performances will be on the bill!
