Magical Mystery Doors At State Theatre -New Jersey

Fasten your seatbelts folks it’s gonna be a ride for sure. I didn’t know anything about this band until I saw a video on YouTube and I was intrigued and drawn in because of the music behind the name of the band. Imagine that, Magical Mystery Doors. The music of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and The Doors. I was hooked, I mean who doesn’t like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and the Doors.

What was most intriguing about this band was the fact that they besides being tremendous musicians, the music they were playing was not just your regular tribute type where one song goes from beginning to end but they were actually doing what’s being coined as a “mashup” ofvarious songs from each of the artists being featured.

One such “mashup” was the driving theme of Led Zeppelin’s “The Rain Song” being seamlessly melded into The Doors “Riders on the Storm” and smoothly going into The Beatles “Here Comes The Sun”. Another great example if the rendition of Led Zeppelin’s Misty Mountain Hop” over the music of “Hello I Love You” by The Doors. All of this combined with the musicianship and vocals of frontman Vinny DeRenzis, lead guitar Brendan Marro, keyboardist Erik Henkel’s, drummer Mikey Intelisano, and bassist Greg Reigle.

These guys are truly artists in their own right. To have all this music to work with and make the presentation work on so many levels takes a rare talent.

The magic behind all of this is the way each “mashup” seems to musically work in a way that makes you appreciate the original songs and it makes you appreciate what went into the making of these “mashups” and gives you a new perspective on the original songs that made you love them in the first place.

This show was definitely a delight for the senses. The visuals behind the band brought you memories of concerts of the sixties with mesmerizing lights and visions of fantasy lands depicted by the accompanying music. It was definitely with no pun intended, truly “magical”.

Its no mystery that this band is making a big splash in the tribute circuit and have amassed a tremendous following that is well deserved, Rock on Magical Mystery Doors!!!!!
