Jonny Lang at Sony Hall.
I love music.
I love words.
Words and music.
I laugh when people ask “are you shooting any music tonight” or “let’s go see some music.”
Music has a way to make you feel good, make you cry, make you reminisce, think, love, forget everything. It also has a way to make you a better person.
This year (so far) has been incredible with the musicians I have shot-many of which I admit I was not at all familiar with. I had heard of Jonny Lang but didn’t know much about him. Last night at Sony Hall he made me feel all of the above. At one point I was sitting at a table with 3 strangers and we started discussing life and music and all of a sudden, these people were no longer strangers. For a short time, we were in one another’s life, sharing, smiling, laughing, even tears in our eyes. They had no idea who he was but decided to come check him out. 2 women came in separately by themselves, one man and me, and we were all put at the same table. Jonny came out and they weren’t even sure if it was him but as soon as the young handsome man on stage started playing the guitar, we knew it was him.
It was a wonderful way to end a day full of some emotional events.
Review and Photos by Debra L. Rothenberg
This one song, “Red Light,” stood out to me last night.
Jonny Lang…”Red Light”
You sing a song, While sitting at a red light
You think of home, while sitting at a red light
Too slow to roll
Put your life on hold
An open path
With nowhere to go
You start to wonder, while sitting at a red light
You can run a red light, Give up at a red light
You break the molds, when running through the tolls
Speeding through your whole life
A chance to breathe while sittin’ at a red light
You look around, reflecting on your life
A chance to think
Am I drinking too much
Should I keep going
Lose the life that I love
A second glance
When coming to a red light
You can run a red light, Give up at a red light
You break the molds, when running through the tolls
Speeding through your whole life
You can run a red light, Give up on your whole life
You break the molds, when running through the tolls
Speeding through your whole life
When things look low
You’ve gotta keep strong
Feet to the grass
You’ve gotta walk it off
The bows been tied
Too tight to laugh
Feet to the ground
You’ve gotta walk it off
You can run a red light
You can run a red light
Start to think
Am I drinking too much
Should I keep going
Lose the life that I love
You can run a red light, Give up at a red light
You break the molds, when running through the tolls
Speeding through your whole life
You can run a red light, Give up on you whole life
You break the molds, when running through the tolls
Speeding through your whole life”
