Grex is a special, one-of-a-kind band. Karl A.D. Evangelsta (guitar, vocals) and M. Rei Scampavia Evangelista (keys, vocals) convey strong feelings with powerful music and lyrics. Their music is undefinable and it’s beautiful watching them use their instruments, voices and electronics to create their unique sound. I know I’m listening to something special whenever I hear their music. They only tour once a year, driving across the country from Oakland, CA, and making stops all along the way. The good news is that they have 6 CDs so you can listen all year round. I luckily spent some time photographing them before their show in West Haven, CT. Despite a grueling tour schedule which includes hours of driving every day, fitting in meals, loading in, performing, and packing up, and long night drives to their resting place, they were so nice and very patient. Stay tuned for a full piece on them and their music. For more information in the meantime you can click here to check out their website: https://www.grexsounds.com/epk.
Them Airs – Opening Band
As a bonus for the evening, I unexpectedly stumbled onto the opening band, Them Airs. I was warned that it was going to be loud and didn’t know what to expect, but I loved it! The 10 young band members, many still in High School, created a sound that was tight, melodic and interesting. I look forward to learning more about them and their music.
