Dean Lewis was the opening act for AJR at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas on May 7, 2024.

Lewis performed the first two songs of his set “Waves” and “7 Minutes” on his acoustic guitar.

Then he moved over to his piano for the next two, “Hurtless” and “How Do I Say Goodbye.”

He introduced “Hurtless” as the sequel to his most popular song, “Be Alright.”

Lewis followed “Hurtless” up with an even sadder song, “How Do I Say Goodbye,” a song he wrote after finding out about his father’s cancer diagnosis.

Picking the mood back up, Lewis and his band played a cover of Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer.” Later in his set, he played another cover, “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls. These covers went over really well with this crowd, everyone knew all the words.

He closed out his show with, “Be Alright.”

Lewis’ witty remarks and raw emotion captured the audience’s hearts and left them wanting more. I had the pleasure of meeting him after his set and he’s definitely one of the kindest and most genuine artists that I’ve met.

I’ll definitely catch his show again next time he’s in my area.
