Despite the years etched into his face and his weathered voice, this soon to be 71 year old veteran rocker proved he’s still a road warrior who refuses to fade. The legendary frontman took the stage with the same grin and charisma that made him rock’s ultimate showman. With a raised brow and super wide smile, he looked at me and said “take my picture honey”, for which I was happy to oblige. Van Halen with Diamond Dave was a constant throughout my high school years. To say this was an honor is an understatement.
Decked out in leather and brimming with swagger and signature moves, the Roth Show opened with “Panama”, “Drop Dead Legs” and “I’m the One”. The all-Van Halen setlist from start to finish was a pure nostalgic trip for me back in time. Roth wasted no time reminding everyone why he remains rock’s ultimate frontman. What little that Roth may have lost in polish, he more than made up for with every strut, every wink, every howl into the microphone. Guitarist Al Estrada’s note-perfect homage to Eddie Van Halen gave the performance both reverence and electricity, a reminder that Roth isn’t just revisiting the past — he’s keeping it alive. Every song was delivered with gravel and glory, showing his undeniable soul. Each song felt like a final encore, as if he was determined to leave nothing behind but sweat, grit, and electricity. The addition of backing singers turned any vocal limitations into stage strength. Band synergy was top tier and felt authentic. This show felt like an embrace of rock history. Roth leaned into his legacy with swagger and wit, declaring proudly, “Ain’t no tracks up here tonight, baby.” Songs like “Runnin’ With the Devil”, “Everybody Wants Some!!” and “Unchained” weren’t just nostalgia — they were living proof that rock’s rebellious spirit doesn’t age, it endures.
By the final note, sweat-drenched and beaming, Roth stood not as a relic but as a living testament to rock’s eternal heartbeat. Seasoned, scarred, and unstoppable, he proved that legacy isn’t about looking back — it’s about showing, night after night, that the fire still burns. Icon, storyteller, frontman, showman, rocker – David Lee Roth is a living testament to rock’s enduring spirit with a legacy that echoes louder than time.
