Grunge and alternative rock is still kicking! The band Olive Vox formed by brothers Caden Shea (guitar) and Parker James (vocals) and joined by Ben Reid (bass) and Dayton Phillips (drums) provided opening support for Cheap Trick on their fall tour. Hailing from Dallas, Texas, Olive Vox definitely brought their modern twist on grunge rock to Bethlehem, PA. Their sound can be described as alternative rock with inspiration from bands like Nirvana and Cage the Elephant with a lot of groove and grit tapping into the past grunge era but moving forward in their sound. Music is definitely in their blood with an on-stage chemistry that just works.

Cheap Trick, rocking since the 70s, is still rocking in 2025! Robin Zander (vocals, rhythm guitar), Rick Nielsen (lead guitar, backing vocals), Tom Petersson (bass, backing vocals) and Daxx Nielsen, son of Rick (drums, backing vocals) showed why they are still an influential force on the music scene with their blend of power pop, hard and classic rock. In August 2025, the band announced their 21st studio album, All Washed Up, soon to be released in November. They performed the lead single from that album “Twelve Gates” as part of their 20-song setlist.

Cheap Trick definitely delivered and underscored why they remain favorites especially to all in attendance. Their performance with their nostalgic and timeless sound was exceptional to say the least. I was amazed by Robin’s voice and the extensive guitar collection of Rick (I lost count of the number of swaps throughout the show). Their continued touring and performances shows they are not slowing down any time soon. A legacy band in strong form who still make it fun!
