Bleachers – Kansas City, May 23, 2024

The Bleachers show in Kansas City on Thursday, May 23 was a show that everyone who attended will remember for a lifetime. Samia opened the show with an amazing set, followed by Bleachers, who are currently on their ‘From the Studio to the Stage’ Tour, which kicked off in Salt Lake City on May 18. The sold out show in Kansas City was at Grinders KC, an outdoor venue with a capacity of 2,500 in the middle of downtown KCMO.

After a 20-minute delay starting their set due to a technical issue with the stage rigs, Bleachers ironically started their show with their mellow song, “I Am Right On Time” from their new self-titled album. Next was “Modern Girl”, a rousing jam on their new album featuring a great saxophone solo, followed by “Jesus is Dead”, another new mellow tune.

The crowd was very engaged during the whole show, with several signs throughout the audience. Bleachers lead singer Jack Antonoff is known as a very animated and energetic frontman, and he certainly didn’t disappoint in Kansas City. At one point he asked fans to get on each others’ shoulders for a song. He raved about how much the band loves Kansas City, naming off several KC-area venues they’ve played over the years, such as the Bottleneck, Granada, and Uptown.

There were a few more mellow acoustic songs throughout this Bleachers show compared to Bleachers shows from the past, which made sense with the theme of this tour being from the studio to the stage. Jack’s infectious energy was ever-present throughout the whole show though.

Crowd favorites of the night included their biggest hits like Rollercoaster, Let’s Get Married, I Wanna Get Better, and Don’t Take the Money. The crowd received a special treat with the band playing Wild Heart as well, which they didn’t play the previous night in Omaha. Jack told the crowd that the band doesn’t play encores so all 22 songs in the setlist were played together, with the closer, “Stop Making This Hurt”, bringing the proverbial house down. Kansas Citians certainly look forward to Bleachers returning again soon!
