All Time Low – The Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York, NY September 12th
All Time Low brought the The Sound of Letting Go tour to The Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York, NY on Tuesday September 12th. The Sold-Out crowd packed the beautiful venue overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan skyline for a night of Pop-Punk, Rap-Rock, and more.
The night kicked off with a short set from British rocker Lauran Hibberd. Her performance included the single “Honda Civic” and a cover of Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl.” The show continued with a rocking performance by the Philadelphia alt-rock band Grayscale. They opened their eight song set with “Not Afraid To Die” and “In Violet.” Grayscale also had the crowd singing along to “Dirty Bombs,” “Motown,” “Fever Dream.”
Gym Class Heroes, the Geneva, NY natives and Rap-Rock legends fronted by lead singer Travie McCoy were next to take the stage. Their high-energy eight song set opened with “Kid Nothing and the Never-Ending Naked Nightmare.” Travie then engaged the crowd asking them to put up peace signs and middle fingers as he performed “Peace Sign/Index Down.” Within the first notes of “Billionaire” (Travie’s hit with Bruno Mars) the crowd began singing along and continued to belt out every word. The band then brought us back to 2005 and 2011 with a nostalgic performance of their biggest hits: “Cupid’s Chokehold” and “Stereo Hearts.”
You could feel the crowd’s energy swell in the moments before All Time Low took the stage. The Pop-Punk icons kicked off their twenty-two song set with “Lost in Stereo,” “Damned If I Do Ya (Damned If I Don’t),” and “Six Feet Under the Stars.” Fireworks in the city skyline added an unexpected spectacle, prompting a playful remark from the band about their timing and encouraging fans to take a moment and enjoy the view. The band performed songs off eight albums and did a great job creating a set that mixed their new music with the classics the crowd expected to hear. The crowd even had a say in the performance, with a fan vote via a QR code between the opener’s sets, resulting in the selection of “Backseat Serenade.” They closed out the night with a three song encore that included their hits “Sleepwalking,” “Vegas,” and “Dear Maria, Count Me In.” If you have an opportunity to catch a later date of this tour I highly recommend it.
