Ad Infinitum – Seven Spires – Tulip

Another cold night in New Jersey, but it couldn’t get any hotter inside as Ad Infinitum, Seven Spires and Tulip brought all their raw energy and unleashed it on the masses at Dingbatz.
Ad Infinitum, a Swiss metal band started by vocalist Melissa Bonny in 2018, signed in 2019 and now a powerful quartet featuring (guitarist) Adrian Thessenvitz, (drummer) Niklas Müller and (bassist) Korbinian Benedict. Four albums later the band continues to grow.
This was the 2nd show of their first ever headline tour in the United States. I had seen them a few years back as an opener and knew I had to see them again. Bonny’s melodic vocals, which at times transform into powerful growls vibrate through your body as the band is visually enchanting as well as musically proficient. Their melodic symphonic metal sound fills the room and kept the capacity crowd captivated from start to finish.
Opening the night with ‘Upside Down’ from their third album, Chapter III – Downfall, the band never looked back.
A highlight during the show were the duets with Bonny as Seven Spires vocalist Adrienne Cowan sang on “Dead End” and Tulip vocalist Ashleigh Semkiw later sung on “The One You’ll Hold On To.” Their performances with Bonny were both captivating and memorable. It’s always amazing to see artists on tour together collaborate. It adds a little flavor to the night. When Ad Infinitum toured the states a few years back with Kamelot, Bonny contributed vocals on a few songs throughout Kamelot’s set.
The music was well mixed all night with some backing tracks that included some vocals that helped to fill out the sound. Thessenvitz, who plays an 8 string guitar is a master of metal riffs with an impeccable clean sound. He is someone who deserves much more credit than he receives and is a name we will eventually hear more of.
Touching on each of their albums they closed their set with their latest release, ‘Regicide’, before returning to the stage with ‘Unstoppable’, ‘Live Before You Die’ and ‘Into The Night’.
Seven Spires a Boston-based band, and Tulip from Texas, are on the touring bill with Ad Infinitum, also showcased their true heavy metal heritage. Tulip formed in 2018, and Seven Spires in 2013, are on a 10-stop tour across the north east and Canada.
All three bands are female fronted with strong vocals. Adrienne Cowan from Seven Spires was very impressive. Her highly animated and emotionally charged performance was a highlight of the night.
If you can, this is one tour you have to catch if it rolls thru your neighborhood.
